The essential functions include:

  • Provide mentoring, immediate behavioral reinforcements, time structured activities, etc. to children and adolescents who are at risk of a psychiatric hospitalization or out of home placement, who are at risk of moving from the community into an RCL 12, who are at risk of moving from an RCL 12 into and RCL 14, and who meet medical necessity
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary team.
  • Complete appropriate background clearances
  • Participate in supervision and discuss important topics (i.e. ethics, family dynamics, boundaries, treatment plans, interventions, documentation, positive reinforcement, limitations, etc.) with the commitment to feedback and professional growth
  • Participate in an in-depth Initial Orientation (i.e. agency overview, policies and procedures, job training etc.)
  • Complete appropriate documentation (i.e. progress notes, etc)
  • Facilitate a relationship with assigned youth, building upon strengths
  • Participate in in-service training with a commitment to continuous learning
  • Teach pro-social skills and facilitate effective family and community engagement
  • Respond calmly and professionally in a crisis, using effective conflict resolution techniques
  • Seek consultation and support when necessary
  • Follow all agency policies and procedures
  • Other duties as required

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from clients, office personnel, other employees and the general public
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret manual and office documents
  • Ability to speak a language other than English if required based on case load

  • Ability to lift and/or carry up to 20 pounds

Equipment and Computer Software Skills and Abilities:

  • Computer literate (basic working knowledge of Microsoft WORD, Excel, and Outlook) and data/electronic records program in use
  • Able to use telephone, office copier, calculator, fax machine, computer printer and scanner, or other equipment as required


  • Regularly work indoors and outdoors in a variety of environments
  • Potential exposure to blood borne pathogens


  • BA/BS Degree and 2 years equivalent related experience, plus 1 year of experience working with children in a Child Care Agency is preferred
  • Valid California drivers license, driving record and personal vehicle insurance acceptable to Hillsides’ insurance carrier


Every employee has the opportunity and responsibility to participate in one or more activities each year that support the continuous quality improvement (CQI) of Hillsides’ programs & services. Activities might involve membership on a CQI committee or work group, service as a peer reviewer, data collection for CQI and evaluation purposes, completion of CQI questionnaires and surveys or participation in focus groups, or other activities as identified by CQI committees or work groups.
