ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The essential functions include:

  • Supervise, protect & care for the clients assigned to recreational therapy
  • Involved with the individual recreational therapy plan for each resident client
  • Assist clients under his/her supervision in working out their problems with each other & with the group
  • Set limits & provide appropriate discipline for the clients in their groups
  • Assist the residential program in providing age-appropriate recreational activities for clients such as art therapy, music therapy, and community based activities, etc.
  • Initiate and organize games and physical play for residential clients
  • Facilitate ILP, social skills, and anger management groups
  • Liaison to community volunteer groups to organize and hold group events/activities
  • Collaborate with Volunteer Services, Art Department, Tutoring Coordinator, and Residential Chaplain
  • Participate in theme events & special recreational activities
  • Participate in outings, field trips & camping trips
  • Able to set limits & maintain disciplinary standards consistent with Hillsides' policies
  • Be able to organize, facilitate and participate in various leisure time activities through cultivation of personal interests and join with the children and adolescents in normal leisure activities such as dancing, recreation, camping, etc.
  • Engage in recreational and/or therapeutic sports activities with clients as needed
  • Assist in maintaining recreational equipment & the general cleanliness & good order of the recreational facilities
  • Able to drive for prolonged periods, stretch, reach, push, pull, bend, carry, lift, run, and walk
  • Maintain weekly billing requirement
  • Complete documentation of all sessions in a timely manner
  • Other duties as required

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from clients, office personnel, other employees and the general public
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret manuals and office documents
  • Ability to speak a language other than English if required based on case load

  • Ability to define problems, gather, transcribe and post data, analyze, synthesize and classify information, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to work independently and with others ? including other employees, clients and members of the public -- in face-to-face and telephonic contexts
  • Ability to multi-task, establish priorities and manage time, meet deadlines and perform duties under time constraints
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing work demands
  • Maintain high level of concentration and attention to detail for extended periods of time

Physical Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to talk or hear in order to give and receive information and instructions
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, , use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls
  • Ability to reach with hands and arms
  • Ability to use computer keyboard up to 50% of the day
  • Visual acuity, ability to adjust focus and peripheral vision for work on a laptop or other computer equipment
  • Lift and/or move up to 25 pounds

Equipment and Computer Software Skills and Abilities:

  • Computer literate (basic working knowledge of Microsoft WORD, Excel, and Outlook) and Welligent data/electronic records program
  • Able to use telephone, typewriter, office copier, calculator, fax machine, computer printer and scanner, or other equipment as required

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Regularly work indoors and outdoors in a variety of environments
  • Potential exposure to blood born pathogens

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATES & TRAINING

  • Bachelors degree
  • Minimum 2 years related experience
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Valid California driver's license and personal vehicle insurance acceptable to Hillsides' insurance carrier

Hillsides practices Trauma Informed Care (TIC) principles which recognizes the signs, symptoms, and widespread impact of trauma; Employees are asked to comprehensively integrate knowledge of Trauma Informed Care into policies, procedures, and practices with the goal to prevent re-traumatization which promotes healing of families, youth, individuals, and communities.
