ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The essential functions include: 

  • Assume responsibility for the organization and operation of the Education Center
  • Plan, direct and coordinate the activities of the Education Center;
  • Assume responsibility for personnel administration, i.e., recruiting, hiring, supervising, evaluating and dismissing staff in approved positions and administer the personnel policies
  • Report on Education Center activities, financial status, and personnel changes
  • Create and maintain a program that is responsive to the needs of individual students; assist teaching staff in the development and implementation of Individual Educational Plans (I.E.P.’s) and assist in monitoring the results of those plans; and assist in the development of critical skills as needed
  • Maintain positive relationships with Hillsides’ Administrative and Residential Program staff
  • Maintain confidentiality in matters of students, staff and school operations as required by law or prudence;       Exercise good judgment in the performance of your duties and responsibilities
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with contracting districts and other districts as needed
  • Complete and submit reports and other required documentation as needed to comply with all applicable regulations and contractual agreements. Maintain records and files of same as appropriate
  • Prepare a budget estimate for operation of the Education Center
  • Expend funds within the budgetary framework and secure approval for non-budgetary expenditures
  • Assume responsibility for the maintenance of the facilities including supplies and equipment maintenance
  • Assume responsibility and implementation of policies that will provide a more effective level of professional service
  • Complete additional duties or assignments as required by supervisor or as appropriate to the needs of the Education Center
  • Other duties as required

  • Ability to use computer keyboard up to 50% of the day
  • Visual acuity, ability to adjust focus and peripheral vision for work on a laptop or other computer equipment
  • Lift and/or move up to 25 pounds 

Equipment and Computer Software Skills and Abilities:

  • Computer literate (basic working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook) and data/electronic records program in use
  • Able to use telephone, office copier, calculator, fax machine, computer printer and scanner, or other equipment as required

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Regularly work indoors in a variety of environments
  • Potential exposure to blood born pathogens 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATES & TRAINING

  • Masters degree in Special Education or closely related field or a valid California Special Education Teaching Credential
  • Experience in teaching severely emotionally disturbed children/students
  • Experience in administration and supervision of education faculty and facilities
  • Possess a clear understanding of the California Education Code
  • Teaching or supervisory experience in a non-public school setting preferred
  • Valid California drivers license and personal vehicle insurance acceptable to Hillsides’ insurance carrier 

CQI STATEMENT

Every employee has the opportunity and responsibility to participate in one or more activities each year that support the continuous quality improvement (CQI) of Hillsides’ programs & services. Activities might involve membership on a CQI committee or work group, service as a peer reviewer, data collection for CQI and evaluation purposes, completion of CQI questionnaires and surveys or participation in focus groups, or other activities as identified by CQI committees or work groups.
